Lithium Early Side Effects

Postby ComplainJane » Fri Jul 27, 2018 9:38 pm

Hi Everyone,

I recently posted asking if anyone had the experience of Lithium causing anxiety and I really appreciate all the help I got on that post, thanks!

This time I'm interested in hearing from anyone who had a rough time with Lithium in the beginning but who also then had great results. I've been on it 3 weeks now, and we just raised my dose 3 days ago from 300mg 2x a day to 300mg in the morning and 600mg at night.

I honestly can't tell yet if it's working... I think it might be but I'm not sure. However I do have this odd nervous feeling. It seems to be decreasing in frequency, but it's still there. I'm just wondering if anyone else had strange side effects in the beginning, but who ended up having a good experience after some time?

Thank you for helping me with this. I really want this to work, and I'm going to give it another week at least.

I had it in inpatient and felt like I was going to die. Very thirsty, tanked my thyroid levels, made me feel like a zombie. Once I left inpatient and got on thyroid medication, I didn't notice any side effects. I've been much more stable since then with both depression and mania.
Be kind to everyone you come across because you never know who’s suffering inside.

I already have a sort of flat affect, so going on this somewhat sedating medication worked really well for me. I had great luck with lithium when i was on it, with the only side effects being sedation and slight nausea. The side effects went away for me after about a month or so. I was on 1200mg.
Dx: Bipolar 1 rapid cycling, Substance abuse, Antisocial traits
