Quitting Benzos

Postby z7z » Fri Jul 27, 2018 12:50 pm

I am a fan of benzos but I have become dependent on them for sleep for the past couple years. 0.5 mg Klonopin every night. I've had little anxiety but don't always notice the side effects like amnesia, blunted mood/affect, low quality sleep, and brain fog.
I found a site called benzobuddy that recommends tapering 10% or so every week. I am on a low dose so I went off it completely the last two nights and slept okay. I am pretty stable so I think now is a good time to do it. I still think benzos are great long term if you have severe anxiety, trying to give up alcohol, or insomnia. Also are great short term if you feel mania or hypomania coming on.

4th night had pretty bad insomnia, slept great last night though.
Cut back on coffee and am exercising more. Drinking lots of water.
I didn't like the idea of tapering but it is suggested for less severe withdrawal symptoms.
One of my ways of avoiding insomnia is to try to think about nothing and just focus on my breathing and relax my body especially my eyes. If anything saying, "I'm sleepy" slowly in my mind rather than "I can't sleep!"
Klonopin was really a crutch and I fell asleep quickly on it. It's good to go back to au naturel though.

I've had "au naturel" type of sleep since June, when Summer started. I'd not have to be rested for the next day, so I let go of the sleeping aid and I've only had to take it once during this entire time, which is for almost 3 months. I love it! I feel alert and rested. Hoping and wishing you the best. :D
