Can Lamictal increase anxiety?

Postby ItsNotEasy » Thu Jul 12, 2018 1:20 am

i used to be diagnose with dysthima, but prozac never worked for me so i am now on lamictal. i've been on 100 mg for maybe around a month now. Ive been feeling really good like i can appreciate life and people and stuff but in the past few weeks i've like gone crazy two times. I think it was caused by bad communication with people, but i literally just go nuts and it doesnt feel like me. My heart rate is really fast and i circle around and around in my head and then i end up hurting the people closest to me. this is not something i've experienced before. and it doesnt feel right. i also dont have an appetite. i would really appreciate and advice or help, i don't want this to ruin my relationship and i just dont feel like myself.

What is your diagnosis now?
1. Sometimes side effects fade away
2. There are plenty of other meds to try: Lithium is a very good one, Depakote I've heard is good. Also anti-psychotic meds can help. A mood stabilizer and anti psychotic gives you double protection.
3. If you have anxiety, maybe an anxiety medication like Klonopin might help but ask your pdoc.
Be kind to everyone you come across because you never know who’s suffering inside.

I haven't done much research on lamictal and anxiety, but my own personal experience is that lamictal didn't give me anxiety. Of course there is always that true explanation that every drug can affect many people in different ways. I'd talk to your doctor asap!

Thank you guys so much for responding I really appreciate it. On the day I posted that, I had barely eaten all day and drank 7 shots of espresso. My doctor says that the combination of those along with emotional stressors is what did me in and that my medication is probably fine. I've cut myself off of caffeine and im taking my medication at the same time every day. It seems to be under control, but Im worried it may happen again. Thank you guys so much, I cant express how great it is to have responses

It’s sounds like you have a really good pdoc. I’m glad to know you found out from him and that you feel ok on the med and now you are waiting to find out how it works for you. All the best to you with the med. I actually hear lots of good things from most members on this forum, at least since I’ve been on here, since 2013. But you just never know so it’s great to know you are in touch with your pdoc. :D

Out of all the medication I have tried over the years. What has given me anxiety? Number one. Depression. When my anxiety goes up I know I have or I'm going to get depression. Out of all the medications I've tried which hss been quite a few benzodiazepines will give you anxiety. Funny thing is they will prescribe them for anxiety and they will actually make it worse with time. Alcohol will also give you a lot of anxiety. A lot of people don't know that just quitting drinking can help a lot. Marijuana give you anxiety as well. Once I quit using drugs and alcohol my anxiety was a lot more manageable.
