BP and _small_ amounts of alcohol

Postby Sixoclock0 » Fri Mar 23, 2018 6:31 pm

I enjoyed two glasses of wine a week ago, a little exceptionally, after which my mood was clearly elevated and I dug into deep insomnia. It was such a nasty experience I'm now thinking if I should just avoid all of it? Anyone else can relate? This could also be about seasonal changes, difficult to distinguish.

I can't help thinking of the time when I still drank alcohol more or less regularly (weekends), I am almost unable to return to those memories. I must have been a mess! :?

It probably is a change of season. Every year i get hypomanic in the spring time.

Drinking has only made me depressed, never an insomniac.

When i drink, i feel severely depressed the day afterward. Drinking on the medications that are in my signature is a recipe for a nasty headache and a depressed mood.

I'm pretty sure that I have been using alcohol to raise my mood, which is why I ended up self-medicating for quite some time. Though, following crash is also familiar.

Managed to curb past week with extra meds, hmm it's probably better I don't mess this vulnerable period with any more alcohol.

Interesting that alcohol raises your mood. I mean, sure it does while you're drinking, but ultimately your mood suffers afterward.

Yes - medication and alcohol do not mix!

After all, BP and substance abuse(alcohol) is a rather common issue, it must feel good.

This was just about dinner related alcohol, but I'm probably going to pass.

My therapist told me that the effects of alcohol can stay with someone for a whole week. Your body holds on to things a lot longer than we think. Even dinner alcy, combined with meds, may change your mood for the worse.

In regards to substance abuse, i read somewhere that 30% of cocaine addicts are bipolar, because it mimics mania. And alcohol is used a lot both in depression and mania.

i don't drink alcohol unless it's special occasion or i accidedntally got drunk but my need for sleep which is my only gauge for hypomania has practically vanished last few days. i am surviving on maybe two hours a night and even that feels like a waste

i think this seems more seasonabl like noxious said, especially if you don't live particularly near the equator

i know bipoalr people with severe alcoholism and they actually drink less during mania, which i thought made sense since it's a cns depressant and counteracts mania which is like murdering jesis

nobosdy wants that

it is possible you qre just very sensitive to alcohol and could see what not drinking for a few weeks does but i think its more seasonal if it's anything like myself atm

Hugs

I can handle alcohol. I've been buzzed on it and it hasn't affected my mood at all. I have it now and again, but not too regularly. I've been drinking Smirnoff Ice bottles like crazy. They're 8% alcohol, I personally feel fine off of it.

I haven't had a drink in months, not since christmas and before that probably around last summer. :)

So I don't really mind not having the wine, I was just a little surprised by the alleged effects.

It wasn't anything I am accustomed with, something else at play. So at least partially seasonal then.
