Hi,
My dosage of Lamictal was doubled from 200mg to 400mg around 18 months ago and I am feeling annoying side effects. It is beginning to really affect my relationship, with my gf getting upset with my lack of strong emotion towards her.
It's not that I don't love her, but that I'm not bothered by anything, I don't care. My libido is also notably reduced, which upsets my girlfriend.
So, firstly can I ask if anybody else has experienced similar effects, and will reducing the dosage eradicate them?
Thanks so much.

I have been on Lamictal since September of 2015, and on 400 mg for quite some time, and I can honestly say that I have never had any side effects. Anti-psychotics on the other hand- oh yeah! I was on a high dose of Latuda and experienced exactly what you are now; no emotions. I was basically a zombie and it was awful. My bf and my family said they missed me. So I said enough! I have since gotten off of it and I feel much better (and I'm dropping weight, which is a plus).
Medication is different for everyone. We don't all have the same side effects, and what may work for some, may not work for others. Could be Lamictal is just not the medication for you. Have a talk with your pdoc about it and ask for something else. Especially since you are not feeling anything and it is having a negative affect on your relationship. I don't think anyone wants to live that way.

I have been on Lamictal for several years and haven’t had those side effects, fortunately. My boyfriend also has bipolar 1 and takes it and hasn’t had any problems.
That said - I have had the side effects you describe....for me, it was Prozac, an SSRI. He experienced the same side effects on Depakote, which I believe is a mood stabilizer.
