Accidentally mixing meds

Postby Holodeck » Fri Dec 22, 2017 8:23 am

I had a prescription for trileptal which I quit taking after it gave me a rash. Got prescribed lamictal instead. Yesterday I was EXTREMELY tired when I went to pick up a prescription for an ear issue I'd been having. I took the prescription and woke up super early like I used to with the trileptal (it would make me VERY awake). That's when I realized what happened. Checked the bottle, and sure enough it wasn't the right prescription.

I threw the bottle out, but wondered if there might be any issues with having the two meds in my system.

Google has some info on common prescription interactions. Of course, drug interactions and side-effects don't have to be 'typical' and can vary from person-to-person.
My pharmacy's computer actually blocked a new prescription to me because the doctor's software indicated a potential drug interaction. Although a little disappointed, I kept things as they were.
My doctor says to call and inform them of any symptoms or changes that I might notice. I have been ordered to stop a certain med and pick up a new one at the pharmacy that day because of swollen, itchy ankles, etc.
Good thing that you read the label. What was wrong about it?
Best of luck to you. :D

I was able to find something on it after a point. There were a few folks out there prescribed both, but seemed to have a not great time on them together. I started getting dizzy and burred vision. Eventually got very tired, so called in from work and went back to bed.

Yeah seemed they didn't get any memo, so it was simply the next refill.

What was wrong about it?

Trileptal gave me a rash that went from the bottom of my feet up to my waist. It seems I've started to get red feet. Very glad I caught it when I did since the full blown rash woulda been baaaad. Doesn't itch (at least not yet...hopefully not at all), but very irritated. Rashes on the bottoms of feet suck. Every time your feet touch the ground it brings back the irritated itch.
