Physical symptoms before / during hypomania / mixed state?

Postby Camelidae » Tue Oct 31, 2017 11:19 pm

Hi there,

is it common to experience physical symptoms or a change in mental health before hypomania or a mixed state set in?

I will talk to my GP about this anyway to make sure it's not something else causing the symptoms, but I'm still interested in your experiences. It would make sense to me to experience physical symptoms (dizziness, feeling sick, feeling shaky) during an episode, but I'm curious if these may precede it as well.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't heard of physical symptoms, but I believe that anxiety could be a precursor to hypomania.

I get anxiety before or during depression or a mixed episode. I get shaky and nervous so yes, sometimes I do have the "shakes" (as in my hands do shake).

I have Schizoaffective Disorder Bipolar type, and when I go through an episode, I get incredibly bouncy. I literally cannot hold still. Like right now for instance, I'm bobbing my head back an forth as if I'm listening to a fast paced pop-rock song (Beat It by Michael Jackson comes to mind).

I also make noises. Not any particular noise. Chirping noises I guess would be the best way to describe it. When I go through both a manic and psychotic episode, I'll pace back and forth, throw my hands around, do motions for things, etc.

And yes, I agree with everyone else about the anxiety part.
