Mania and paranoid delusions

Postby Ru12 » Sun Oct 22, 2017 8:23 am

Sorry if i'm doing something wrong, this is my first time using this site  I live with with a family member who has been diagnosed with Bi polar many year ago, she is normally quite stable while on her meds, however recently she had an issue with her health and was admitted to hospital for some tests. She was to be placed on a drip and could not take any meds for half a month due to the health issues. While in hospital she presented with paranoid delusions, she believes people are trying to kill and are and the doctors and nurses are all in on it. She is now Turning on her family, threatening them and blaming them for keeping her in the hospital. My question is: After a delusion, be it paranoid or any other delusion, is the individual aware that these beliefs were delusions and not real?

It's different for every person. I know some of my delusions are just that, but there are other ones that I can't help but shake out of my head. I make someone mad at work, and I think they're going to kill me. I hear "messages" on the radio, and I think the musician is trying to send me signals and commands, but that I can tell, is just a delusion.

Medication helps a lot. Trying to get on the right medication is a trial and error process, and it could take a while, but once you find what works for you, you may be good to go.

Once I got on medication, I laughed at many of the delusions I had (many were religious) but some I am still somewhat open to (government conspiracies). One of my delusions was that George Bush was listening to my phone and then a year later they revealed that the Patriot Act tapped everyone's phone so I wasn't too far off.
Be kind to everyone you come across because you never know who’s suffering inside.

Like the others said it's person to person. With my dad it's pretty hard to break through to him. When I get paranoid or delusional, I'm always able to say what I'm thinking is wrong (basically for me it's simply intrusive thoughts). Not sure if I learned to recognize it due to growing up with a dad like mine or mine's simply not "as bad"
