Transitioning from Invega to Abilify

Postby Minnii » Mon Oct 02, 2017 5:14 am

Hi :)
I will be transitioning soon from Invega to Abilify and have some questions.

My pdoc says the transition can be rough, and I'm wondering how rough? lol

I wonder if anyone else knows if it's true that, in general, Invega can be better at containing psychosis/mania than Abilify (I'm aware everyone reacts differently to meds, just wondering the overall idea of folks on this forum), and if anyone had any problems making this transition and if so what problems?

Thank you so much :)

Can you tell us why you're switching?
I tried Abilify when manic and it didn't work. Invega worked quickly.
There are a few others I've heard mentioned that people liked: Latuda, Saphris.
Do you also take a mood stabilizer like Lamictal or Lithium? I've heard that taking those in conjunction with an anti-psychotic provides "double protection."
Be kind to everyone you come across because you never know who’s suffering inside.

Side effects, basically... TD and lactation. I really like Invega, but side effects have become unbearable. Was hoping I could lose a few kilos too, but maybe that's too much to ask lol

I take valproic acid as a mood stabilizer.

Haven't had psychosis in years and take the minimum amount of Invega allowed in my country.

It's also on the table that the psychosis could've been drug induced, but we're waiting to be sure.

Ugh, don't even get me started on Invega. That drug ruined my life.

I never went from Invega to Abilify, but I have been on both, and I have transitioned from one drug to another, several times over the years, and on high doses at that, and I never had any withdrawals of any kind in the process.
Bipolar I | GAD
Lamotrigine - 400 mg | Clonazepam - 1 mg
