I've been on Abilify now for about 5 or 6 months and I've noticed something unfortunate while I've been taking it: My ability to have fun has disappeared. I can't feel joy for things anymore and hobbies don't seem to do anything for me. I know people who feel normal can usually have fun and enjoy hobbies, so why can't I? Is it the medication? Is it not working as it should? I feel like I'm flat out normal and not happy or sad anymore. But because I can't enjoy hobbies as I used to, something just doesn't feel right. Any thoughts or opinions on this?

It's called anhedonia, it's a very rare side effect of the medication. Most anti depressants, mood stabilizer, and antipsychotic medication have the chance of giving it to you. It may go away while taking the mdication, you may need to stop it. I would call your doctor immediately and tell them about it.

I agree with Tyler. This happened to me on Latuda, and part of the reason why I stopped taking it.

Some meds make you feel like that...if you're not in a depressive episode right now, I'd guess that speaking to your doctor about a med change will turn things around in a positive way.
I have taken a med that made me feel very blasé towards life. I felt indifferent, yet sad as I felt closed off from my life. Med change, boom! Back to smiling.

Happened to me too when I was put on Zoloft ... I've described it in the past as feeling like an empty shell ... you're there physically but feel basically nothing, no joy no sadness you're empty

...unfortunately when I spoke to my therapist and doctors at the time they said it's normal and I just need to keep taking them, it wasn't until I was about to walk out into oncoming traffic just to feel something that they realised it wasn't normal
so I agree with everyone else talk to you doctors asap... I hope you find a different med that will help you!
