Plan for Coping

Postby SpaceBubbles » Thu Aug 24, 2017 9:14 pm

I have Bipolar 1 and recently had a major episode at work which landed me in a hospital. Im trying to avoid another major episode. Ive listed things my support group needs to watch for and maybe a handful of triggers. How shall I go about creating a plan for avoiding another episode?

There are a few things you could do. First, make a list (mental or physical) of all your triggers. Then try to avoid them as much as possible. Another thing you should do is always be honest and upfront with your doctors. They're there to help you, and they know what they're doing. I'd also recommend going onto some sort of medication, but again, that's your doctors choice. Trust them, take the medicine, it'll probably help. It may have some side effects, and it may not work, but you won't know unless you try.

My plan for coping is to hire people to help me with housework, so I don't get so much worry and anxiety. I am almost literally unable to move a finger when I am ill. So things don't get done. I alert my few friends that know of me having bipolar and they help to keep an eye on me. I hope you do avoid a hospital stay. I never like those. But if necessary and with the right medication as prescribed by your trusted doctor, you can be on your way to stability. The important thing is that you are fine. This is how I view things. I've been hospitalized and I've not always been completely well, or even well at all, once I get out, but eventually I do get relief from meds that we try and at different dosages. I wish you luck. How are you doing now?
