Experiences with lexapro?

Postby TuesdayC » Wed Aug 09, 2017 6:31 pm

I just got put on it and immediately feel poorly but I want to wait it out to see if it'll help me. Anyone have experiences/impressions of lexapro?

I was on it about ten years ago to try and combat my bipolar depression, alongside my mood stabiliser, Carbamazepine/Tegretol. I seem to remember I was on a small dosage (I can't remember how many mgs now), because I have a history of antidepressants sending me high, even when paired with a mood stabiliser. It worked for my depression eventually, but took several months to do so, which felt like a lifetime. Luckily it didn't send me high either though.

In what way have you started feeling ill since being put on it? As an antidepressant, it carries the risk of sending people with bipolar into a high, so I'd be watching out for all your early warning signs e.g. a reduced need for sleep, increased energy levels, racing thoughts etc. and contact your pdoc if you start experiencing any of them. I don't say this to scare you, only so that you're aware about the risks antidepressants can pose. Usually they're prescribed alongside a mood stabiliser and/or antipsychotic to mitigate this risk.

I hope this helps somewhat and that Lexapro turns out to be a good med for you.

Never been on it myself, but know several people who are or have been on it.
So... take this with a grain of salt, I guess.

From my understanding, the first 90 days are a little... give and take.
Most felt physically bad (nauseous, tired, sore, etc) but noticed that the longer they were on it, the better they felt emotionally. By the end of the 90 days most of them no longer felt physically effected and really seemed to like the effect on their mood... but like many drugs it takes a good deal of time to adjust to, I guess.
DX~ BP1, ASPD, Narc Traits, Depersonalized AF, and former Bulimic.

Meds~ Currently Unmedicated
