are these mood swings characteristic of bipolar?

Postby yeejah » Mon Jul 10, 2017 2:18 pm

Hi all,
i have extreme mood swing daily. i can wake up feeling really happy and ready for life, and the next few hours i feel really depressed and tearful with absolutely NO REASON to feel so.
Do these mood swings that i have just described sound characteristic of borderline mood swings or bipolar mood swings?
thank you

Can't diagnose you. Sorry.

But, it is rather unusual with bipolar to have intra-daily mood swings. It's not unheard of, but unusual.
Dx: Bipolar 2. BDP+HPD. Pathological Gaming.

It takes a long time for a tree to grow.

I've had these type of feelings as you describe when I had a mixed episode. I am merely sharing how it felt with me, I'm not trying to say you are having that type of episode, but you should look further into what other symptoms you are having. Mixed episodes have both manic and depressive properties to them. They are hell to go through. Let us know how you feel.

I am with quietgirl on this one. I have only felt this way while mixed. OR - if I'm just having a bad day, not bipolar related. Like thejan said, we can't diagnose you. You should see a psychiatrist, since you've asked about bipolar in a couple threads. Only they can tell you what it is. And I also agree with thejan about not having these episodes happen all in one day - that would be ultra-ultra-rapid cycling (which is super rare) or maybe borderline personality. But again, these are just my opinions, and you should seek a professional.

At my last pdoc visit when I was describing some similar things she said "Or maybe the mood stabilizers are working better than the antidepressants did and you are experiencing more emotions. Sometime you should cry because you are actually sad for a reason." It almost belongs in the "know you are bipolar" thread that someone had to point this out to me.
