HELP! Mixed And Manic! Don't Wanna Sleep, Crying & Anxious.

Postby BabyBunny » Thu Jun 07, 2007 4:44 am

Oh gosh I really need some help! I've been calling my psychiatrist every other day because I am becoming more and more unstable and can feel myself slipping into a mixed bipolar episode.

tonight we decided to up my depakote from 375mg a day to 500mg a day. And added 10mg of ambien to help me sleep. But so far it isn't enough.

1 week ago my psychiatrist put me on 20mg of geodon a day (for depression and mood stabilization) and 50mg of trazodone each night to help with my insomnia and to maybe get some added antidepressant action.

Well for the 1st couple of days I felt well. And on day 3 I started to notice some side effects, but fully expected it. The trazodone was not helping me sleep and I still had to rely on the seroquel I had previously been taking in order to sleep.

As the days wore on, I started to feel kind of weird. First depressed then just weird. So I called my psychiatrist and told her and she suggested I stop the trazodone and I agreed that might ne making me unstable. So we did and then added ambien the next night.

Well i'm still on the geodon and am still unstable at only 20mg (i did take 40mg for 2 days but can't handle it.) this is not my 1st time on geodon and have always noticed an increase in irritation, anxiety, agitation and mania when on it so I don't want to take it anymore.

Would trazodone at 25-50mg a day cause me to become unglued like this? Because I do need something for depression but ssri's and snri's are out as i've tried them all except for remeron and I don't wanna go there as I am already battling my weight.

Oh gosh I am so desperate and scared! I don't know what to do! My man is supposed to be leaving tomorrow to go away for a long weekend and here I am flipping out and calling the hospital to see about being admitted for inpatient therapy. And I do believe knowing he's going to be gone until late sunday night is making me so much worse.

Can anyone please find it in their hearts to offer up any advice or knowledge they may have about geodon or trazodone related mania? And I also ask for a prayer. Not only for myself but for my family as they suffer right along with me and I love them more than anything in the world.

so can geodon or trazodone cause a bipolar person to totally become unstable? What about ambien? Can that make things worse?

Oh gosh i'm a wreck and don't know what to do. I'm just freaking out!

Thank you all and god bless!

First off, you have to relax...I have Bipolar 1 disorder...I know all about this...
With Bipolar disorder, it is very common to have a bit of a tough time finding the right cocktail of meds to stabilize the sufferer...
that is what is happening to you and you are NOT going to lose it.
This is what i do, to ward off what i refer to as "intrusive feelings"
that is feelings that are not appropriate for the given occasion, such as feeling depressed, when it is a sunny beautiful day...
Or anxious, when you are in the safety of your own home...

I say to myself, these are diseased feelings, they are not real...and will pass. I don't fight them, or fear them, I just say, it is just a feeling, I know who I am and I don't really feel that way...
I concentrate on my blessings and do not fear, being bipolar rather I "embrace" it.

I have now been taking the proper medication and have worked extensively at changing my thinking, I was diagnosed as "severe"
and now given what i have applied to my life, i have barely even had a mood swing or any major disruption for close to a year...

It is imperative that you change the way you "think" listen to your calm rational self, see that you are merely experiencing some side effects and that they do subside in time, i have been threw this...
Start some deep breathing daily, go for walks, force yourself to be social in some capacity, either from picking up the phone or, visiting someone and most importantly you must relax,..Your not flying out there or anything like that, you are merely having "mood swings"
with mild anxiety, it is part of it, it isn't going to hurt you, what is going to hurt you is if you start panicking Also, you are NOT going mad and you are going to live..So please, take these words seriously and if you can't sleep then do what i do and that is "rest" or read a book, go on the net etc etc...I know all about the dreaded feelings of anxiety as well, i had to overcome OCD and PTSD on top of this...So, it can be done and you are not that bad at least you know what it is and your on the right track with a Doctor...
So, that is GREAT! You are well on your way to fully arresting this disorder and living a perfectly normal life...just like I do!
Thanks for coming in here...and hang in there, your gonna be fine!...

Geez I've had episodes like that without being on any medication at all. I would get severely paranoid about my boyfriend going to his friends house. I know full well that he wouldn't cheat on me because I think he's a little too shy to do it, plus he is very true to his word, but I still get that " Yah but anything could happen " voice in my head. Whenever that happens we fight so bad that I just end up telling him to just GO. Then I break down and freak out and cry all night, and it ends up being ok.
I know you wrote this a while ago and I'm curious to know how things ended up.
I'm going to the Dr. today to ask for a diagnosis for my mental instability, any no no's on medications?

Bipolar isn't so bad...

Postby survivor101 » Mon Jul 09, 2007 4:05 am

You just have to try and take it one day at a time and try and relax/keep your mind distracted, talk to someone if need be, pray if that's what you do, go on the internet, go for a walk, tell yourself and sincerely believe it..."YOU ARE GOING TO BE FINE!" Then live it one day at a time like I'm trying to do. Hang in there...... Take Care/

Thank you survivor101.
My dr. subscribed zoloft and xanax. I started taking zoloft last night and keep hearing bad things about it like it makes you gain weight blah blah blah but to be honest I don't care about that. If it helps me with these mental problems I'm willing to try it.
I also am working on a little plan as to how I want to live my life so that I have peace.
I think alot of these problems stem from mal-nutrition, family history, etc. yah everyone thinks that but to me you have to MAKE your life the way it needs to be in order for you to keep your mind at peace. Even if you have to sit down with a pen and paper and write out all the items you want in your place, who lives there, how it's decorated, how it's cleaned, etc. I may be wrong about it because it sounds a little compulsive, but if you can organize your mind and organize your surroundings it'll be helpfull in recovering from the disaster areas of life. Let me know what you think.

E. You are right about mental organization

Postby survivor101 » Tue Jul 10, 2007 3:36 am

:) E. you are right about trying to organize things in your mind and so forth. It can be very mixed up in your head and confusing too. It happens to me alot. But, I regroup my thoughts and I seem to be fine for the time being. Writing poetry and keeping a journal seems to help me get my feelings out, and feel better in general.
Take Care....

HELP! Mixed And Manic! Don't Wanna Sleep, Crying & Anxious.

Postby darkmood » Fri Jul 13, 2007 5:03 pm

I agree with Tripolar. Especially when she said: “I say to myself, these are diseased feelings, they are not real...and will pass. I don't fight them, or fear them, I just say, it is just a feeling, I know who I am and I don't really feel that way...
I concentrate on my blessings and do not fear, being bipolar rather I "embrace" it.

I have now been taking the proper medication and have worked extensively at changing my thinking, I was diagnosed as "severe"
and now given what i have applied to my life, i have barely even had a mood swing or any major disruption for close to a year...”

When I’m down and depressed, I used to be really hard on myself, saying to myself that I just just pull out of the funk and move on. At times, I still do that! But I’m getting better day by day.

My (our) feelings are “diseased,” being that they stem from our thinking disorders and/or distorted thinking. And I have learned to take them with a grain of salt. A lot of the time, what I’m feeling just isn’t pertinent to the matter at hand and I just try to relax and keep myself as calm as I can. Sometimes, if I’m manic and can’t sleep, I just lay there, relaxing, and my mind (sometimes,) and body get some relief and some rest.- I’d like to hear how you’re doing now. Take care, darkmood.
