Thorazine as sleep aide

Postby Olivia » Wed Jun 06, 2007 1:16 am

My pdoc has me on thorazine as a sleep aide and I'm feeling very uneasy about this. I'm also taking 2 mg. of klonopin and .5 xanax at bedtime.

I am so hung over the next day (I do sleep since she changed to this formula) that I don't really wake up until about 3 p.m. I get about 6-7 hours of hard sleep.

I can't take Seroquel (auto accident on that), Ambien CR, or Trazodone.

Any other ideas for sleep aides?

I am bipolar II taking Lamictal 200 mg. and Trileptal 450 mg.

Thorazine (like your other meds) is pretty strong to be used just as a "sleep aid".

Since you're bipolar, your doc may also be prescribing to make sure you don't swing manic as well.

You really need to discuss this with him/her. And see what can be done about how zonked out you are the next day. You might also *ask* whether any of the meds could be taken earlier in the evening to keeping from sedating you so long into the next day.

Good luck.

Thanks for replying.

Yes, I agree that she may be addressing the sleep as well as agitation and anxiety (about not sleeping) however I feel as though I've lost my life.....that is, when everyone else is awake and I'm in a fog. I never really get manic....just worried and irritatable, angry. It's not a major manic thing for me, just annoying for everyone around me.

Perhaps we need to increase the Lamictal 25 mg. to see if getting my moods more stabilized will help with the sleep.

I'll call her later this morning. It's only 5:40 a.m. here. :-)
