Anybody tried Rexulti (brexpiprazole)?

Postby quietgirl2538 » Thu Feb 16, 2017 4:35 pm

I am going to try this drug once I have weaned off the Abilify. Has anyone tried it or heard reviews about it? I understand it's fairly new.

I haven't tried Rexulti myself, but from briefly reading around it seems to be an antipsychotic which is often also used for depression, so it sounds like it could be a good replacement for Abilify, especially since you've been struggling with low mood. Just wanted to wish you all the best with the meds change, quietgirl. Hugs!

Thanks a bunch Ennui! I am so hopeful that this drug or another one will help me out with my low mood and not make me gain weight. I am restarting my eating habits for the diabetes. Being on Abilify makes me so hungry and I just grab what's in sight. I want to curb my appetite.

You're so welcome, quietgirl! Hugs to you. I can totally empathise with the meds causing increased appetite- it's very frustrating. The Seroquel and Zyprexa I'm on are both major culprits for that, and I get so hungry I even have to get up and have a snack in the middle of the night! I sincerely hope the Rexulti helps your low mood without causing increased appetite. Please let us know how the meds switch goes x

Update: The insurance did not approve the med. It's not meant to be for me to take that one.

That's a shame, quietgirl, but like you said, it's obviously not meant to be. Did your pdoc say what med they'd be looking at as an alternative? Hugs x

Yes Ennui, we had talked about an alternative which is called Vraylar (cariprazine). I start at 1.5mg. The other drug, Rexulti was not specifically forumulated for bipolar. It was mainly prescribed for Schizophrenia and Major Depressive Disorder. So they easily rejected it based on my diagnosis of bipolar I. I am hopeful that this one will work for me. :D

P.S. The sample package says it's made in Hungary but distributed out of New Jersey, US. It's fairly new and the pharmacist said that it costs a lot and that my copay of $50 was a very good price. It's still pretty high, imo. But my health comes first.

That's good you have an alternative med in place, quietgirl. I haven't heard much about it, but if it's new that will be why. Wishing you all the best with your meds change and please keep us updated as to how it goes. Hugs! x
