Lamictal is the brand name for Lamotrigine a anti seizure medication and can be prescribed as a mood stabilizer just like Lithium. I didn't like seroquel as I hated the fact that I was soooo tired. I liked the Lithium I had no side effects and felt more in control, less rapid cycling and more able to handle the moods. Hope this helps.

lithium is great
have to report on both sides so be aware ..
the organs it is hardest on, are, thyroid, cardio vascular, and kidneys , blood levels should be taken for toxicity levels.

If the next 3 are happening together.
.blur or db vision,
w/ intent tremors (shaking that when reaching for cup it gets more pronounced)
disorientation.
With all of them together chances are sever side effects--in the- toxic levels even if blood levels are in the normal range each person is diff.

:D
In general it is a soft kind drug. lessons (decreases)mania. stabilizer of moods.
hope this helps; it is like there are always going to be side effect so it comes down to what is best for you what youand deal- live wiht..
great your checking out your options and educating your self You rock

seroquel vs lithium

Postby Forgiven » Wed Jun 06, 2007 9:32 pm

I have been on both and have been on Seroquel for over 4 years now. Previous to that (with a cocktail of other pills) I was on Lithium which I preferred, but my pdoc felt that Lithium for many reasons which I wish I remembered right now was not something that he felt was a drug to be on for long term usage.

I will need to be on meds the rest of my life. Lithium wouldn't be a choice drug for long term use. Too hard on my body. Also, because of the salt it is derived from it was hard to find at one point and I had to special order it from Walgreens. Isn't that weird. Anyway, thought I would share my 2cents.

Hope that Seroquel users find the right level - it's a great pill when you have the right level.

I also take Lithium and have no real side effects from that, yet. It seems to do me well. But that doesn't really matter.

Because each person reacts differently to meds. So what is great for me might not be great for you.

Lamcital was a wonderful medication for me. Until I got a huge rash all over my body. They had to check to see if it was Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, it wasn't. Then they ordered me off of it.

Lithium and Seroquel seem like two completely different things to me. One is a benzo, the other is a salt (I guess? lol)

I have taken each of them individually and lithium didn't really do much, they upped the dosage to the point where I was apparently shaking (like hand trembling), and tried my damnedest to drink enough water to keep that in check. Still didn't do much so they took me off it.

Many meds down the road I came across Seroquel. Seroquel was one of those drugs that I found as a safe haven. It didn't really make me better a whole lot, but it put a hold on my moods and sleeping problems cause it pretty much slowed me down to a great degree. Its kind of like a sedative, and I was eventually reduced to a lower dose of it, and used it as a sleeping aid sort of deal. I really have not heard a whole lot of people complain about seroquel. In smaller doses (depending on the person) it can probably help without making you too drowsy.

Note: I am not on either of those anymore.

Theres my two cents, hope it helps. I must also add that for me personally, lamictal helps me to a great degree.
