Lamictal Abilify combo-is it right for me?

Postby Cocinella » Sun Aug 17, 2014 10:11 am

Hey guys,

I'm on Abilify/lamictal combo. When I first started Abilify I was great for 3 weeks. But I noticed I am more scared and more restless about everything. I am not even comfortable and relaxed with my family when going out on lunch (!!).

I swing less and my family can see I'm better, except that I'm being scared and insecure and I change opinion as werll. I am not determined.

How to know if Abilify is for me? MY ubstitute pdoc said I surelly won't go off it cus it's heping me a lot. But an increase of my dose which is now 5mg would help me from stop being so afraid.

Any ideas of what might help? Maybe I need a different booster to my 100mg of Lamictal...?

It's hard to really know what is right for one person and what may be right for another person. If you are asking for examples of people on the same type of meds and dosages, I don't know if anyone has that same combo you have and if it worked for them or not. Best thing is truly to work with your doctor and get this all worked out. I used to be on abilify and lamictal. I am still on lamictal but abilify didn't do much for me except raise my blood sugar levels, so it was stopped. I don't actually remember if I was ever on both at the same time. It's been a couple years since I stopped abilify. For years, that was the drug the pdoc had me on for "symptoms" and I suppose it did it's job. I don't really know. I never got better so I couldn't tell. Maybe it just kept me from feeling worse. But I hope you find some answers and that you feel better soon.

I too am on Lamictal and Abilify. 300mg Lmctl, 15 mg Abil. I have been on this combo at varying levels for about 4 years. As far as I know it works for me. Funny about the anxiety for you - I have the same problem. Wasn't sure if it was just me, or which if either meds it is. For some reason I have a real issue with taking the Abilify - too new, too many possible side effects (like the blood sugar thing, which thankfully is not an issue for me.) Frankly, I am just a non-med person but when we have tried to lower the dose of Abilify I run into trouble.

thanks for your answers guys!

well the problem is that abilify helps with frequency of mood swings. also mood swings are mild. but yeah...anxiety. well i don't really have anxiety but nervousness. and i am like locking myself indoors, afraid of going out like ona lunch or on a one day trip (!!). i am just nervous often.

so on one hand it helps, but on the other, it doesn't. except for the first three weeks when i felt a boost from it, it doesn't really do me more good. it's like the help of it is stucked somewhere.
maybe i need to put some other kinnda med to my lamictal for which i think is doing it's job.
