ok, so I have run into a sticky situation. I moved in with my brother and his wife. I have enough medication for a little more than a week.
I have tried the state's welfair agencies and cant get a doctor's appointment as of yet. I am still on my wife's insurence, but she lost her job and will only have the insurence till 8/15.
So here's my question, how do I get my medication before it runs out.
Can I go to an instant or urgent care? Hospitols for out paitents?
Thanks
Mark

Depends on your area. Check into any and all mental health facilities in your area. You'll more than likely find one that offers services on a sliding scale.
If you have little or no income, then you'll probably pay nothing.
Some mental health facilities have their own pharmacy and will give you meds at a reduced rate or some type of charity care option.
If not, then I've found that they'll give you free samples a lot of the time.
If you're in the United States, then you should apply for a medical card right away. Even if you get turned down, you can use the denial letter to qualify for patient assistance programs that some of the pharmaceutical companies offer etc.
First though, you're going to have to set up an appointment with one of your local mental health facilities. Call them all and find out if they offer a sliding scale plan... odds are you can get treatment for free if they offer that.

Thanks Nihilist I will look into it. I actually have one more option I have been told about which is to see a regular doctor, but I got to find one. My wife lost her job and ins runs out on the 15th.

I wish you luck.
About those patient assistance programs I told you about that some of the big pharma companies offer; Whichever medications you're on, check the websites of the companies that make them. They usually have a link somewhere on the site explaining how they work.
I know for a fact that Lily and Johnson and Johnson offer it.
When you get an appointment with a mental health facility or a doctor, be sure to mention the patient assistance programs that the pharma companies offer. If at a mental health facility, some offer case management. A case manager will likely be aware of them and can help you out. Otherwise, you can apply directly for many of them. Just check the websites of the pharma companies that make your meds. Many of them offer some type of charity option for people with little or no income.
As for a medical card, you can apply for one at the same place where you would apply for SNAP ( foodstamps ) benefits.
The maker of Depakote apparently offers a coupon for "self-pay patients" for up to $75 USD off.
I get my meds from a mental health facility's pharmacy for around $5 per med costing me $20 USD per refill. So you should really check into all of the mental health facilities around your area.
