Spam advertising on the Forum.

Postby skilsaw » Tue Aug 05, 2014 12:57 am

This is the third time I have logged on in the last 20 minutes.
On both of the previous tries, I have been able to get on the forum and then my computer is taken over by Spam. The only way out of it is to log off the internet and then log on again.

The latest Spam was to the effect that I had won $3,500 in a Free Lottery.
I didn't look at the first one long enough for the topic to register.

Has anybody else been plagued by this problem?

It makes me wish I had a gun so I could shoot my computer. (Just kidding. I don't need a gun to drop it off my balcony onto the pavement below. Just kidding again.)
It is not always possible to make someone's discomfort go away.
Sometimes, the best thing we can do is resist the urge to fix it and instead just say, "You, too?"

Yes, it has gotten really bad. I don't have to get off the internet but it keeps popping up every so often. Annoying.

Really sorry

I know this is really annoying as I am getting it too. it is being worked on but, as you can see, there are still some unresolved issues.

Please dont click on anything - eg I have been getting popups which ask me to update java which are clearly dodgy.

Hopefully this will be sorted soon - I know it is really annoying

Sorry guys

If you use Firefox, you can use an extension called Adblock Plus, I couldn't live without it.

When I'm using the PC, I have this problem but not on the iPad, so I've been coming to the site on that little device instead lately.

I couldn't remember my password earlier and wanted to throw my iPad like a frisbee. Could I borrow your balcony? Kidding too.

You can use it with Safari too. I use it and haven't noticed anything here.

You can also get Adblock for Google Chrome, its in the extensions section I think and does a grand job eliminating the spam/popups

I, too, use FireFox and would not use anything else except maybe Chrome if this didn't work. IE is the worst for preventing popup spam and all kinds of stuff. The only thing I use it for is a new PC or device to download firefox and chrome. lol

I use Firefox, but I don't currently have adblock plus installed. I just use the block popup window option that comes with Firefox standard.

I haven't experienced any of what you're describing. I think you may have adware or spyware on your computer. They're typically installed without your consent by so-called free or demo versions of other software.

They're not usually the easiest things to remove completely either.

I'd switch to Firefox and be careful about which software you install on your computer from now on. Like I said, it's typically installed without consent by free or demo versions of other software.
