I'm going off my meds again

Postby mystic803 » Fri Jul 18, 2014 7:05 pm

I was on lamotrigine, perphenazine, and topamax, along with a couple of others, but now my pdoc has taken me off of them and out me on flupenthixol. I am also on dexedrine, cloanzapam and zopiclone for sleep. I came off of the lamotrigine to rid of the weight I gained. Now with this new drug, I can barely go on a walk without pain in my legs. How am I supposed to rid of this weight now when In can barely walk? I'm stopping the meds and m uch to my dismay, we have already tried almost every med out there. I don't know how I'll cope now.

I can imagine it's really frustrating to be unable to walk without pain. Question for you - are you going off of the flupenthixol, dexedrine, cloanzapam and zopiclone without consulting your Pdoc? I'm concerned that without an AP on-board, things may go wonky for you. Any chance you can get into your Pdoc to discuss your walking pain and try another option?

Just going off the flupenthixol, after going off the lamotrigine. No she doesn't know yet until I see her this Wednedsday. She does know about the lamotrigine. Sorry I wasn't more specific. But today I went for a walk and finally, little pain. Pain is still there but not as intense, also going off Topamax, hasn't told her yet.

Well that's great having less pain;) It's good you're going to see your Pdoc this week because it's really important she know what you are doing. Remember, she is there to help you, and you are a team. Keep her in the loop. There's no reason to stay on a med that causes unbearable side effects, but it's also important to stay on meds in general. Remember, you are managing an illness. There's a reason she put you on an AP, so hopefully she will prescribe something to replace it. And maybe a mood stabilizer to replace the Topamax.

She didn't replace the Topamax with a mood stabilizer, although she said she is waiting for her request from a representative for Latuda, I have still yet to research it. It's not available in my province yet. She told me to keep taking the Topamax until then. She also suggested to up my dosage in the future of methotrimeprazine for sleep and mood but I said no, because it contributes to weight gain quite a bit. I gained a lot of weight on lamotrigine which is the reason I went off of it. Now being off of it, I don't feel much different from when I was on it. I'm trying to lose the 50 pounds I've gained from all these different meds I've been on. It may sound vain but that's the way it is for me.
