Question:::

Postby scatterbrain » Fri Sep 15, 2006 5:51 pm

I wasn't sure where to post this question. Any reply and/or advice is much appreciated, though, thank you.

My question is: If I have a mental illness, is it impossible to be a psychologist? Like, bipolar, for instance...

Absolutely. Theres no law or rule requiring therapists to be mentally healthy. Though Im sure they would try and discourage you from being a therapist if you were narcoleptic or couldnt hold a grip on reality.

But for something like bipolar disorder, your clear.

i heard from a friend of mine today who works in MI and she told me that one of the chief clinical psychiatrists in our local area is bipolar (and an out lesbian) so i doubt it's impossible. i would imagine it would have to be proven to be under control, but really, it would probably be helpful because you would understand patients' needs.

my second major is going to be in psychology, we crazies can see what the norms can't figure out, we just have to find our rainbow first, and once we're better, we can then help others get better:)
somtimes, it's like i want to touch these lights, and give into them become them, just a flash for a moment~in this world
