Lamictal and period

Postby Cocinella » Mon Jun 23, 2014 8:05 am

Hey all!

This topic is for the ladies:)

Has anyone had any problems with menstrual cycle while on Lamictal?

I had no problems untill now, I started 125mg of lamictal 3 weeks ago, and today is the 31st day of my cycle and still no period. I usually have 28 days from one to the next cycle. I am experiencing more mood swings, crying, irritability and feeling like crap...also had headaches etc., but still no period.

Should I be concerned?

Hugs**

I dont think that lamotrigine has had much of an effect on my period except it has got a little longer cycle and shorter in length maybe. It sounds like you are struggling a bit with it all- I would tell your Dr about it if I were you. Hope you feel better soon

Sometimes new medicines can cause a delay in the cycle as your body adjusts, or, more accurately, anything new introduced to the body can do so. Stress, too, can be a factor; so stressing over it could delay it more actually! Same for the pms.

I hadn't thought about it much until you mentioned it, but now that I do it seems mine's gotten shorter yet heavier since starting it; though that could be from a number of things, including losing my virginity around the same time, so I can't say if it was the lamictal or not.

But, I wouldn't worry too much, since it's only been a few days late so far, and like I said, when your body adjusts to new things the cycle can be thrown off a little.

I had a thermal ablation (sp?) about five years ago. (It's a surgery for women with very heavy menstruation. They burn out the lining of the uterus causing little to no period. It is heaven sent. Unless you want a baby. The surgery renders you sterile). So I only had a 3-day very light period after the surgery. And then once I started on all these meds, my period went away completely. I do believe that some of these meds affect women's periods. I was also on Lamictal at that time so that might have affected it, as well. However, I don't take it anymore and I still have no periods. So I don't know which med is the offending factor. In fact, I don't care! I'm just so glad not to have one anymore! :D

Yeah, my menstrual cycle has gone berserk since starting Lamictal. I've always been extremely irregular (I'd get my period every three months or so), but it's been maybe four months that I've been on Lamictal, and I haven't had a period in about six months. I wonder if Lamictal is to be blamed (thanked?) for this or if it's something else.
