suspicion of bipolar disorder

Postby lorian » Fri Jun 13, 2014 1:59 pm

The last 3 years i've bin suffering from high anxiety Pure obsessional ocd. Now they gave me some meds that seem to work for that, but the last months i have bin having serious mood swings. Or i'm in a high mental state, like i'm king of the world and could do anything, or i feel low like just jumping from the roof, without any neutral mental state. And it's a very hard rollercoaster. Could this be Bi-Polar?

Hello lorian,

From what I've experienced, my mixed episodes were made of really high moments were I felt overexcited, had magnitude ideas, turned narcissistic, moments where I was in an abyss and didn't see the light at all with really dark ideas and moments where I was in a normal mood but those seemed really boring compared to my hypomanic moments. Typically, feeling as if you were the king of the world might only be one of the symptoms, it doesn't have to mean it's being neither manic nor hypomanic. What also characterizes those moments is that they don't disturb you at all, you feel really great and you call that feeling amazing, that's why most people don't realize they suffer from mania/hypomania. Feeling like jumping from the roof might also only be a possible symptom of a depressed moment, it doesn't mean it has to be a depressed moment. Do you have other symptoms during those moments ? Not any moment where you feel between the two ? You say it's been lasting for months...

Anyways, you should meet your psychiatrist as soon as possible, he'll tell you what he thinks about that. He alone can evaluate the situation. Did you check the possible side effects of the pills you have been taking ? Don't forget to NEVER stop your medication unless your physician tells you to do so whatever you think about what you're taking. Only your doctor can tell you if you can stop taking them.

Feel free to send me a private message.

Hoping this helps,

The good news is that if you have medication for OCD, you already have a doctor who knows you well, and may also have a psychiatrist.

What makes this important, is that it gives the doctor an understanding of what is normal for you. He can observe your mania or depression in relation to your normal.
It is not always possible to make someone's discomfort go away.
Sometimes, the best thing we can do is resist the urge to fix it and instead just say, "You, too?"
