Experience with Haldol?

Postby KialK23 » Sat May 31, 2014 6:40 pm

Ive been on Holdal 5mg since my last episode of mania which has been about 10 months. I read that it blocks the area in your brain which basically makes you happy and creative which would make you depressed right? Not sure if that means it reduces dopamine levels. Anyways I have been feeling somewhat depressed and lethargic does this mean I should talk with my doctor about coming off Haldol? what are your experiences with Haldol?

Hi there
I take 2.5 mg of Haldol since a couple of months ago, it was prescribed due to some slight auditory hallucinations and it's worked pretty well when I take it, it doesn't make me either lethargic nor depressed, well, I've been mostly down lately but I don't think it's the Haldol. I'm also on a low dose of risperidone, and that med actually makes me very lethargic, so when I started with this problem we discussed increasing the risperidone or adding a new antipsychotic that wouldn't make me sleepy. However if you feel it's the med that's causing you these problems you should talk to your doctor about it and see the options.
Prev. dx Schizoaffective disorder, BPD, Bipolar 2 Current dx Back to bipolar with psychosis, Cluster B personality disorder
Aripiprazole 20 mg, Risperidone 3mg, Wellbutrin XL 175 mg, Clonazepam 0,25 mg prn, lamotrigine 200 mg, pregabalin 75 mg, quetiapine 50 mg as a spleep aid

I have not been prescribed it but I did abuse it and it gave me terrible extrapyramidal side effects - I think it was 10mg I injected and random muscles contracted and moved bits of my body with me not being able to control it. I was in such a state at the time in general I cant say what it did to my mood etc. What I would say tho is that there are plenty of newer antipsychotics some of which also have mood stabilising properties and most of which should have less side effects for most ppl. I would talk to your Dr if I were you.
