How Things Are

Postby CrackedGirl » Wed May 21, 2014 10:04 am

Hi Everyone

Sorry I have been MIA- I have been having to tody the house A LOT because I will be moving and a valuation is needed - is going on atm but I have been tidying pretty much non stop since Saturday. I have been staying up at night to do it too and if I have slept have been gettting up very early and I think this plus the stress of moving plus I am looking for work has sent me high. I am trying to settle this down but it is proving difficult not to take off. I told my CPN and she has said monitor it and I will see her next week. My question is does anyone have any advice about how to settle things down when there is a lot of stress about. I know that things in the future at least for a while are going to be more rather than less stressful and I also know I tend to shoot upwards with stress. If anyone has any advice to stop me taking off I would be grateful. I am on pretty healthy doses of meds already so I know a med fiddle is an option but prob would not be my first choice.

Thanks everyone!

Hugs

I hope you can manage something to maintain a good balance. I could use some advice too, i wish my stupid medical bullish*t would allow me to have a therapist already. Drugs aren't enough anymore

Wow, Cracked, that's a lot going on!! No wonder you're stressed! I hope everything goes well for you.

As for advice... I don't think I have much, but here goes what little I have.

Exercise. Do you usually exercise? Tbh I hate exercising, but I've found I love taking long walks, so that's what I do. Even with my recent meds adjustment I still feel myself going high late afternoon, usually around the time I get home from work. So, I just leave the house and walk for an hour, fast pace. I find it helps get rid of some excess energy and it makes my body tired. I don't know how much this would help you... Tidying is already heavy exercise!

Doing something like drawing or doing a puzzle. I find this somewhat grounds me. It doesn't require that type of concentration that you need for reading, for example. But it still keeps my mind occupied, and my body as well (which is a big issue for me!). It relaxes me, I guess.

I also lift weights I have at home, when the energy inside is overwhelming and I can't leave the house for whatever reason. But I guess that falls in the exercise category.

This is all I can think of right now. I'll add to it if anything else comes up. I hope some of it is helpful! Good luck with everything!

I dont usually exercise - tho the tidying certainly has been good in that respect lol - hard work! I do walk tho but not incorporated into my routine. I like the idea of doing that - perhaps I should try to get out to have a regular walk every day - I think I could do that esp now it is light and warm :D I think it would be good for the excess energy for sure. Thanks for that suggestion :D

Thank you - I have some colouring in books for grownups - I think I might try to do some of them. I can see how that could help with focusing in a way which is not too difficult to do when mood is up. Thanks for the advice :D

I never would have thought of that - think I will prob stick to the walking lol. Thank you so much for the suggestion tho

Really appreciate your help

Cracked, sorry i won't be of much help. but i'm thinking of you and praying for you.

umm..i don't know have you tried yoga? but i heard its really relaxing, good for mental and physical, it will reset your mind back to its natural state. calm n focus. and it can decrease the stress you're having.

or, you can get a massage since you've been very tired of tidying.

anyway i believe it will pass. good luck for you. :D

Glad I could help! :D

I think I'll try the colouring books myself, sounds like something I'd enjoy. Thanks!

I'm sure you'll do just fine! Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Could i suggest mindfulness meditation without sounding like a crunchy hippy? I have had great success with it and it is as simple as sitting for a half an hour a day in a quiet comfortable spot and focusing on your breath as it comes in and out through your nose. when a thought comes up, just make note that you noticed it (non-judgementally, its okay that you lost focus on the breath. that's how the mind works)then return to focusing on the breath. It takes some practice and it wont happen over night but you will start to learn to catch yourself before you go full mania. its almost like it primes your brain to focus on the actuality of things instead of letting your mind take control. A great book on the subject is called "mindfulness in plain english"
Also look into a person named Jon Kabat-Zinn. He was one of the forerunners in proving the science behind mindfullness meditation and has a center for stress reduction at the university of Massachusetts. heres a video of him speaking to an audience at Google. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nwwKbM_vJc

Also through MRI's it has been shown that meditation physically changes the brain. im not a doctor but here is a good article explaining what happens.
http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2 ... ter-brain/

Can you tell im trying to separate myself from the woo-woo spiritual mumbo-jumbo that is usually thought of when someone says meditation?
Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Actually... I'd suggest tidying/cleaning but you're already doing it :) So I guess other suggestions have to do.

Also, hugs.
