I'm also on lithium 900 mg, Lamotrigine 75 mg and risperidone 0.75 mg, the latter has worked better since decreasing the dosage so I don't feel like a zombie. I'm also now on haloperidol but I don't think it's a mood stabilizer but it was more given due to some auditory hallucinations that seem to be gone now. I think they're doing their job, I hate that now I take 6 pills just for my psychiatric conditions (I also take clonazepam and modafinil) without considering my colon and allergies, but hey, whatever gets you through the day. I've had some good days and bad days but I haven't been to too many extremes, and I actually feel fine with almost no side effects and I can function everyday which is a blessing. I'm just jealous of people who mostly take an aspirin when they have a headache and their only "drug" is coffee. So to answer your question combining mood stabilizers seems to be the norm here.

I am currently taking Depakote and lamictal both mood stabilizers. Not sure why I have to be on two but it seems to be working well. Except for the side effects of the Depakote which I am willing to overlook for feeling better. My friends and family say I seem to be much more relaxed. I used to be on a mood stabilizer along with an antidepressant. The antidepressant was causing drug induced mania. I started this new regimen with multiple mood stabilizers and no antidepressant about 8 months ago. No more manic episodes. I miss the energy I had sometimes but know it was not healthy.

I was on Topamax and Geodone (which is an anti-psychotic) at the same time to stabilize my mood. I started having severe eye pain, cloudy vision, and a few other symptoms of glaucoma before I was finally taken off of the Topamax. It did seem to help my mood though.
