Lamotrigine and swollen lips

Postby beergoggles » Tue Mar 18, 2014 2:00 pm

Hello,

I got my dose upped a week ago from 25 mg to 50 mg/day. I started coming down with a cold and freaked out a bit since I knew I needed to be aware of that and it ended up only being a cold. Two nights ago after I took my dose, I started feeling my bottom lip swelling. I called my doctor and told him what was happening (and he said that Lamictal didn't cause such a side effect, even though I know it can) and I didn't take it yesterday.

Today at 3:19 am I wake up and notice my whole face is swollen, my lips look like knackwurst and everything inside my mouth is swollen so this time I really freak out. I went to the ER and got a huge shot of hydrocortisone which helped with the burning and throbbing sensation inside my mouth and decreased my huge lips but just a little bit, so that and the tongue sores are extremely annoying.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the swelling to go away? Even smiling is uncomfortable. It's a shame, I was feeling great on Lamictal :(

I cant advise you as a professional but I can say that based on my experiences I think you need to go back to the ER or the Dr asap as this sounds like a worrying reaction. I think it is important that you seek further help and at least make sure that the swelling is resolving and not an ongoing reaction. Def seek some more professional help on this urgently
