Postby Alec7 » Mon Mar 17, 2014 12:58 pm

Hello everyone,

Has anyone noticed differences of side effects between regular lithium and lithium ER at same dosage ?

Thanks

I was only on regular Lithium once while in the hospital in order to more quickly bump me up to a new dose. That being said, I didn't notice any difference in side affects between it and Lithium ER. The only real side effect I've had at all is the lovely hand tremors (and even that is mild)... I must say that I do appreciate the Extended Release though because it means having more manageable times to take meds. :)

Hope this helps some.

Changing to the ER helped stop the gastrointestinal side effects of the regular.

Personally, I hate lithium. I had this shovanistic doctor telling me it was the best drug in the world. Time tested and all this stuff. I felt like I needed to take lots of the drug to get the effects, but the catch is you can't do that because you could poison yourself. Additionally, it felt like I needed to truck around a 5 gal. bottle of water because I was so severely dehydrated all the time. Totally terrible drug, and I would much, much rather be on Zyprexa or, my favorite, Risperdal. Seriously, you should try an a-typical antipsychotic. And get with the times... that is my opinion.
