Lack of sleep leads to .. depression ??

Postby IWantToRecover » Fri Mar 14, 2014 7:49 pm

Lately I've found that a lack of sleep translate into mild depression. In a way it's good because at least I'm fairly normal / functioning, but I'm wondering if others found that a lack of sleep resulted in more of a depression than mania? Sleeping more or sleeping less has no difference for me anymore, any imbalance turns into depression and it sucks. I can't keep myself awake from depression anymore.

Lamictal 150 mg + abilify 2mg
Talk therapy, CBT and DBT (it actually worked for my anxiety issues!)

Sorry to say, but no, not really. Lack of sleep nearly always makes me hypomanic. Or being hypomanic makes me sleep less, I'm never really sure! When I'm depressed I just sleep a lot.

Just a thought: could it be a mixed state? I'm not very familiar with those, though, so maybe someone else can comment?

I hope you feel better soon!

Lack of sleep leads to wonky sleeping pattern. Hypo leads to less sleep required. Depression leads to more sleep required.

Haven't noticed difference in mood after staying 2~3 days awake.. Sure, after a while the sleep deprivation starts to count as being drunk, but never depressed.. :s
Rapid cycling BP II with side of anxiousness, mixed states and BPD/AvPD-traits.
Meds? Went feral. So far nothing has given me the equal of highs on daily basis.

hi

I also tend to go rather than down when I dont sleep but for sure everyone is different. I think managing to keep on top of sleep is so important in BP to maintain mood stability and that this is the case however it affects you

For me, lack of sleep leads to depression, anxiety, and a strong desire to sleep ... forever.

I have mixed episodes defined through major depression and lack of sleep makes me both hypomanic and extremely suicidal.
