Your experiences with agitated depression?

Postby tucson » Fri Mar 07, 2014 8:23 pm

Hello all!

This is my first post. I have been diagnosed as BP II with GAD. This diagnosis came later in life. All this time I thought the problem was with me personally.

I would like to share my experience with what I term as agitated depression. I would like to compare this to what all of you have experience with this similar state of mind.

I have had agitated episodes that go on for a period of weeks. I feel sad, fatigued, angry, very restless, sometimes unable to sit still like a young child, and easy to irritate into outbursts. When laying down, I do not want to get up. When I have to get up, I am angry about it. This is not how I normally am.

Is this familiar to anyone? Have any of you experienced this type of depressed mood? What are your thoughts on my condition when I experience this "state of mind?

I think I became most agitated when their was uncertainty in my life. I would get a strong feeling of "There's something big (potentially bad) around the corner" and not knowing what or when would stir me up.

I would also get agitated for no particular reason, and at those times I would pace the floor, rock in a chair and hear ringing in my ears. The ringing is formally called "Tinnitus". I would want to be alone and would hide away in bed, but not sleep well.

Since being diagnosed, medicated and receiving talk therapy, the agitation has been largely controlled.

I'm interested in how others will describe their agitated states.
i hope this is helpful.

I have to admit I show signs of agitation when Im manic or having mixed episodes. It generally consists of bouncing in a chair, rolling around in a chair, bouncing on my heels, or some other repetitive movement while confined to a small space.
Seroquel- 100mg, Lamictal- 300mg, Trazadone- 300 mg, Trileptal-1200mg, Gabapentin-1200mg

sounds like mixed episode to me, or atleast my experiences of mixed episodes anyway!

my last mixed episode actually was more depressed, with the agitation, lack of concentration, cant sit still of my hypomanic episodes, even had a hint of psychosis chucked in there for good measure! -- honestly, id rather go to hell than experience another mixed episode as that was by far my worst.. kind of like having all the thoughts to do youself harm, but with all the energy and wired feelings to actually go through with it, dangerous mix in my eyes!

I'm Dx'd the same as OP, but I feel like on top of just general anxiety, I get unrecognized mixed states, since they are close to the same as depression with severe GAD. But I get these symptoms daily so I'm unsure, and psychs aren't too much better at diagnosing myself than I am, so I'm unsure which they might be. My general anxiety (disorder) is worse than anyone I've ever met, which is what makes me think it's a mixed state.

Hi, I am Bipolar ll and that agitation depression describes my mood swing. I dont want to be touched or talked to much and the slightest thing irritates me. I feel like everyone is annoying . This is soon followed by hypomania where i want to buy a new car and drive to Cali from NY. I did buy the car though. Mood stabilizer has little help, these cycles keep coming.
