Depression?

Postby Gemmaleanne » Sun Mar 02, 2014 8:56 pm

I've just been put on lamictal as mood stabilization so low dose 25mg a week ago to be titrated.
Anyway I'm only recently diagnose bipolar 2 and have had 3 episodes since November :( (hypomanic nov, depressive over Christmas, and agitated hypomanic end of jan)... I'm really not doing great. Been on quetiapine and aripiprazole which for various reasons didn't work and now I'm on lamictal. Anyway I feel like I'm heading into a depressive episode :( wether it's from being messed about with meds, the diagnosis, quitting college I don't know, but who do I go to??

I feel like my pdoc doesn't believe the frequency of my episodes which makes it harder. But can my doc prescribe anything now that my pdoc is trying to stabilize my mood? Iv got a month until I even start on 100mg lamictal and pdoc said 200mg is the aim so 2 months as he's titrating fortnightly.. I don't feel I can wait that long to start to try and get depression under control so I need to tell someone :(

I have a cpn appointment tomorrow afternoon, should I mention it to her? What's the likely hood of doc or pdoc adding an anti d to lamictal? Xx

if you're bipolar, antidepressants make bipolar far worse. lamictal is a good drug, and yeah it doesnt typically start working until you get to about 100mg.
this is stupid

See iv heard that aslong as take with a mood stabilizer they're ok? I know they trigger hypomanic or manic episodes alone though, my hypo in nov was triggered by Zoloft xx

Not entirely correct. They CAN trigger mania (it actually confirms bipolar diagnose when it happens) but there are antidepressants which work perfectly well taken along a mood stabiliser. I am on one (moclobemide, old MAOI but works for me).
Currently working on my upcoming signature.

Just a suggestion...
Be very careful with two doctors prescribing psychotropics! Your pdoc has a better grasp on those meds and has a better idea of the interactions between meds. If you are concerned, call your pdoc. If doctors are both prescribing psychotropics, they need to be communicating. You are at risk if they dont!

I am fortunate. My psychologist communicates with both my pdoc and my GP. If he is concerned, he can contact both and discuss my med management. He sees my ups and downs weekly and so I gave him that permission. Quite frankly, it makes me feel safer knowing he cares enough to do so.

No I totally understand, infact I hadn't thought about the interactions etc. however I did call my pdocs secretary today to request a call back, however received nothing of such phonecall :(
My cpn is off Ill. But I think in the AM I will give the office a call and see who's about, I sure there's someone there who can advise me, or contact my pdoc to add a bit of urgency.

I hate how when I have a problem it's impossible to get a hold of anyone, kinda makes me feel like on battling this alone sometimes xx

Call the pdoc again and ask for an appt. and explain to them you feel it is urgent. I dont have much experience working with my pdoc but I know my GP will make sure to see me when my mental health is a concern. Heck, he will fill my psychologist's shoes if I say it is urgent.
I would also recommend seeing your therapist if you have one. They can help or at least mine does. I cry. I laugh. And I cry some more.
