Side effects (and Sycrest)

Postby Sisupoika » Tue Feb 25, 2014 12:04 pm

Are you currently experiencing side effects due to medication? My hand tremor has got a lot worse lately and I'm also having a heavy tic at my left eye, although my wife says she doesn't see anything (!) - maybe it's something "inside" the eye I don't know but it's starting to be really annoying. I think it started since I was put on Sycrest instead of Abilify.

Is anyone here on Sycrest or similar? If yes, any side effects?
More in general, are you having side effects at the moment?

Hand tremor/shake from Deprakine, mostly. Sucks for drawing. Kind of handy for gluing papers together - made nice zigzag of glue.
Rapid cycling BP II with side of anxiousness, mixed states and BPD/AvPD-traits.
Meds? Went feral. So far nothing has given me the equal of highs on daily basis.

I am finding it difficult even to type texts on the phone :(

Not quite that bad, I think. The experiment with long lines of glue have been worst so far - tried to make straight line, ended up with zig-zag spanning 2~3 cm, after one edge gave up trying. Although I haven't tried typing with my phone with the worst tremors.. Made ton of mistakes before the shakyness, and still do, so no idea how much of that is a side-effect and what's too big fingers on tiny screen.

Still, sucks in meticulous work. I need to rely on rulers when working, most of the free-hand work is too shaky. Knowing hands may shake only makes it increasingly worse too.

For a long while I had increased appetite from Deprakine - or how it reacted with Lamictal, who knows. But that seems to be passing now and I'm back to my healthy one-reasonable-sized-warm-meal-per-day -diet. :p Although I am eating lot more fruits&nuts; could have a lot worse snacks though.

Sadly it seems not even Finnish sisu can fix shaky hands.

Have you talked to your doctor about this? Sometimes generic medications can make people experience things that the brand name does not. You could see if your doctor will switch you back to the brand name to see if that makes a difference.

I hope the tremors and tics get better soon. Those are definitely big things to talk to your doctor about vs just waiting it out till your next appointment.

Luckily we are not surgeons..

Same here. I am more than 20kg overweight now and am always hungry :(

But that seems to be passing now and I'm back to my healthy one-reasonable-sized-warm-meal-per-day -diet. :p Although I am eating lot more fruits&nuts; could have a lot worse snacks though.

I may be unlucky because I have taken Lamotrigine (Lamictal) and Deprakine togethere for 2 years among other things, and my appetite is still the same!

Sadly it seems not even Finnish sisu can fix shaky hands.

:D

I thought they were basically the same? I will ask. I called and am seeing her again next week. But other times I have asked similar questions over the past few years I've always been told that it's normal to have this kind of side effects with most of the medications available. The one that I am kinda worried about is Sycrest (I think it's called Saphris in the US), since it's relatively new and has not been widely used yet. I have only used it for a few weeks and the heavy tick at the left eye is definitely new for example. Also the second day I took it I had some sort of convulsion at the muscles at the left leg, so strong I got scared. It's gone, it only happened once. Has anyone here ever experienced something similar?
