How would someone that is bipolar and not taking thier meds get treatment. Can someone please help.
My sister is bipolar and drinks shes has episods that are violent, explosive rage, and no regard for her life or anyone elses.
She has lost her job, shes in debt, lost her medical insurance.
She has wrecked her car and damaged her body from the wreck.
She has had numerous DUI's and when she goes to jail they do not send her for a psychiatric evaluation they say she is just drunk at the time and mad.
It is more, much more serious. She has lived with my dad,my other sister, myself and now with my mom.In 7years
What do you do to help, someone like this?
Has any anyone successfully been treated for bipolar and alcoholism that has a normal function life?
I dont see anything bright in her future she is traveling down a road and creating a no way back for herself.

my bipolar granpa drinks heavily and abuses my other alcoholic grandma. what we did, was we moved all that people that were living with him out temporarily, and put them in relatives homes. then we set him up for rehab and a therapist.
oh, and put her on LAMICTAL, it does me wonders.

Lamictal is a good med, but has bad side affects for some, such as a fatal rash, that spreads from the inside out.
Drinking is a depressant and many bipolar who are manic will resort to it subconsciencely to down themselves out. But it can cause outbursts as the mania seeps thru.
