You, yourself can do nothing. A person with drinking problems needs to go to AA or another program--they also have to admit they have a problem before anything will work.
Us bipolars do not like to take meds because we like the feeling of being high when in the mania stage. Experiencing the high of the mania stage can be quite addictive.
About all you can do is tell the person over and over again about the bad things in their lives. They do not think anything is wrong. I have written a great deal about my experiences with bipolar and drinking on my website. You may want to check there for more background information. I'm an alcoholic and a bipolar--I know how this person feels. I've been there.
Good Luck,
Jim S
