Hi Allie, and welcome.
I was dx'd with bpd first and then bipolar.
When I attended dbt classes, the majority of those dx'd with bpd were also dx'd with bipolar. I was amazed. I thought I was alone.
The mood swings are similiar, as the irritability and depression.
Tho Bpd is also associate with additional criteria.
I found where my psychdocs dx me with bipolar, it takes a bit longer for them to conclude the bpd when seeing one for the first few times. Then it emerges in some silent but deadly way to them.
It probably shows in my black or white thinking. And my hx.
I know it's a hard thing to accept at first, but there is so much hope for us out there.
I'm currently on depakote
Haldol prn
And alprazolam,
They help to level me out
ease outbursts
And combat stress and anxiety in that order.
I must comply or my sx's return.
When I am level, I find myself living, understanding, and communicating better.
I'm very fortunate to have found a great doc. But I made sure I had more than one opinion over my lifetime. I'm now in recovery of bpd, but do have some relapses. (crossing fingers).
