Need a Filter...

Postby Nupy » Sun Mar 03, 2013 9:55 pm

Anyone else feel they need a filter when talking sometimes? Lately I've been saying things that make me cringe when I think about them later, but initially I don't care and just say what's on my mind. And some things I think are hilarious end up offending people. Oh well.

I know the feeling. I Offend people with my jokes quite frequently, and I understand where you're coming from.

Yep. Particularly in manic/hypomaic states... I'll just say whatever, and then later I'm like "why in the world did I say that?!"... which leads to an anxiety attack over thinking they now think I'm weird and crazy.

Oh I am awful with this when I am high at all. I do not think at all and come out with stuff that is really rude then cringe about it afterwards. I always say I will bite my tongue but it never works out that way. I post totally inappropriate stuff on ppls' walls on FB as well and live to regret it. One particular gem I did recently was calling a gay guy in my street who I hardly know a queen - it was obviously as a joke but it went down like a lead balloon. I also posted a picture that was a tasteless meme about Yahweh on my vicar's wall - was not popular. Loads of other examples but those two I think illustrate what a tit I can be.

I strongly identify with this!

I'm somewhat legendary in my social circle for going into huge tirades where I begin to greviously insult whomever I'm talking to at the time, often in an extremely surreal and unpredictable manner.

This can lead to absolute disaster when I'm drunk. In one year I was punched full-force in the face by two different people, one of the times knocking me unconscious :D

Thankfully this behaviour has toned down since I was younger as I'd often go through horrible periods of self-recrimination following these "episodes". I wouldn't really feel in control of what I was saying at the time and could be really cruel and nasty to people, even people I really liked. Cutting down on alcohol has helped this ALOT.

I've done this too - social networking sites can be a disaster. Thankfully I've managed to delete some of my more outrageous comments pretty soon after I've posted them, avoiding a possible calamity.

My friends think I'm hilarious and outrageous...I don't know how I have managed to not be punched! I never knew it was a marker of bipolar.

I made my friend cry on her wedding day, she said 'I wonder where my other half is' I said, 'oh, did you not get the message, he's not coming'. This is one minor example....

I say what's on my mind because at the time, there will be no consequences in my head :-/

I've had a lot of people tell me "whoa, you're so open, there's no hidden agenda with you".

I've also had some people delete me from their Facebook :P
