i got accepted for the lower rate of DLA this week, for both care and mobility (i have an old ankle injury that affects my walking a fair bit).
Has anyone else been awarded the middle or higher rate? They have me down as only needing care for about an hour a day which i dont feel is right as without someone around i do tend to have panic attacks more frequently and if im on a down i do need more help. Also i have quite bad arthritis that affects my ability to hold pans, bottles etc and open jars and cans, so making a meal alone can be a nightmare

Hi hon
I get low rate mobility but high rate disability. I am pretty sure this is because my GP wrote a report saying I am a danger to myself because of previous self harm and suicidal behaviour. I think this danger was deemed to be all the time. This was back in 2011 tho and I know that along with abolishing DLA

our darling government are making it a lot stricter. If there is any risk to yourself from yourself I would appeal and get a letter from your Dr confiming this. I have a friend who was in this position and got more on appeal. Sometimes I think they deliberately award low as they know ppl will be reluctant to appeal. It might be worth seeing if CAB can help you.
Hugs

Hi traceyjayne,
I get DLA mobility at the high rate as I am a full-time wheelchair user due to severe Spina Bifida. I am completely paralysed from the waist down. I get middle rate care because I need help with certain personal tasks.
CrackedGirl is definitely right in saying to get help applying. They have the 'knack' of filling out the forms in such a way that your claim will be successful. Get an appointment with someone at your local Citizens Advice Centre, take the forms with you, and you will soon be getting what you are entitled to.
