I have been diagnosed with Bipolar type 2. I was put on Lithium which worked wonderfully at stabilizing my mood but brought with it nasty side effects. I am now on Lamotrigine and that has been effective but likewise it has caused a series of nasty side effects!
I've been looking into alternative therapies such as EEG, and Orthomolecular medicine. I've read a few studies and single case studies that show these treatments as having promise. Even some claims of complete symptomatic control and/or cure.
I'm not getting my hopes up as these are relatively new therapies. I'm interested in having a discussion about these therapies, as well as other alternative therapies for Bipolar Disorder. I'm interested to hear from anyone whom has tried these therapies.
Best of luck people

I've read that the thyroid plays a part in bipolar symptoms. I'm also wondering if T3/T4 treatments are worth checking into.

I haven't heard about EEG or orthomolecular for bipolars. Do you have specific references/articles to check out or links to websites where you read the studies?
In addition to T3/T4 treatments, which I didn't personally do, you may like to check out a vitamin/enzym approach. I posted on the vitamin thread with specific info on getting levels balanced out. It makes a big difference.

I saw interesting articles about low doses of ketamine being very successful at treating bipolar depression.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 100247.htm is one of them that pretty much sums up the others.
Never heard of the orthomolecular or EEG, I'll join Ian in asking for the studies/links
Currently working on my upcoming signature.
