Help moving out!

Postby mrcure » Sat Dec 15, 2012 11:03 am

Me and my Mother simply don't get along and at worst despise each other.

Since I can't turn to my Mother I was wondering how can I move out?
Not too long ago I tried moving out but was declared homeless and I eventually ended up moving back in after a month.

I am currently on ESA as I'm under assessment as to whether I have Bipolar or Borderline Personality disorder.

I need the answers to the following questions please.

Should I notify the council of my mental condition? If so will it help?

Because of my condition I can't accept shared facilities, is there any chance of me getting a home in a non anti-social area with my own facilities whilst on benefits?

My Mother mistreats me and often triggers episodes of depression and anger, is it wise for me to live
alone or is it better if I stay at home where I am looked after to some extent? (Free food, rent, electricity etc etc)

I am 21, male.

I think it would be helpful if you said where you are located :)

Hi

Sorry things are difficult for you atm. I am in the UK too and have a few thoughts. I am also on ESA.

I believe you dont have to but I really think you should - apart from anything else it might make you a vulnerable adult meaning you are more likely to be prioritised accomodation. I cant say thing for sure but I think that is the case.

There is a chance - I have a friend who has his own flat in a reasonable area. Again I think letting them know you have mental health problems might help with that.

This is a difficult one. Have you ever lived alone before? I do and it can be tough but there is also freedom that comes with it. Maybe drawing up a list of pros and cons would help

Are you on all benefits you can claim? There is the ESA but also DLA, Council tax benefit and shoul you decide to move out housing benefit. It might be worth a trip to the CAB to discuss this.

Hope this helps

I have never lived alone before however, I believe I will be able to cope with bills.

I receive both Council Tax benefit and housing benefit as my parents don't own the home.
I am already on the system for housing and have a lot of points because we are over crowded.

As for DLA i'd like to claim it because it's a lot more money and since I left my job a year ago I have been very poor, but can you claim DLA without a complete diagnosis?

I have been diagnosed with symptoms such as social anxiety, depression and psychomotor agitation however, they're still unsure whether the cause is BP2 or BPD.

Glad to hear you are getting things you need. DLA can be claimed whether you are working or not which is good. As for whether you need a formal diagnosis I am not sure. If there is doubt about your diagnosis and it is between two things that might be oK as I am sure there are a lot of ppl in that position. But I think that is something to ask CAB. It is well worth doing. For me it is almost as much as my monthly ESA (I am on high rate disability and low rate mobility)

Thanks again Crack, this is the third time you've helped me out now ha ha, I owe you a lot. I'll probably go ahead and move out, the freedom is exactly what I want and I hate being tormented and treated like a kid.
