I feel you pain, 2cool4u. I have struggled with sleep for 6 years. I'll sleep for 3-5 hours and them I'm awake for 2 hours and then maybe get back to sleep for an hour or two. I currently take Lunesta and Trazodone at bedtime and do, on occasion, get a sound night's sleep. Call and ask your doctor about upping your Trazodone to make sure it is safe for you and because, if you increase it on your own, you will run out before you can refill your prescription and would then have to explain your need for an early refill to your doctor.
I am working of my bedtime routine and what I do when I wake up during the night to try to help me sleep better and longer. I have to fight the urge to get on my phone or the computer when I wake up at 2 in the morning because the light will wake me up completely, destroying any chance of getting back to sleep for at least 1-2 hours. Sometimes when I wake up I have just had a VERY vivd and disturbing dream and remember EVERY little detail. Then, when and if I get back to sleep, it will continue. This has made me not want to go back sleep because I loathe these dreams. My therapist has suggested writing them down when I wake up, just to get it out, and then see if that will stop it from coming right back. I just tear them up and throw them away the next day (I'm not interested in dream interpretation).
I guess my point is to try to vary your routine. Taking my meds and going to bed earlier has helped me get a little more sleep as I seem to wake up at 2am no matter what time I fall asleep. I hope you can find something that works for you and please call your doc before changing your Trazodone dose.
Take good care,
Alice
