stress triggering manic feelings

Postby rooby » Wed Nov 28, 2012 2:42 pm

is it me or when so many stessful things happen at once it causes really awful adrenalin rushes and feelings getting out of control? Yesterday first thing in the morning the window on my car just opened fully and wouldn't go back up, that caused some tears and freaking out (it's 1' here) it did go back up eventually now I'm scared to use it, then later in the day we had to meet solicitor as we are buying our council house and there is a deadline by 31 dec if we don't finalise by then we will lose a load of money on no mortgage interest relief, we had to go to the tax office and council office by which time I was literally shaking and my head was hurting with all the stress and worry, I had to go to work then after that , by the evening I just felt manic and took diazepam but it hardly took the edge off (i take zyprexa and lamictal but they don't seem to do anything). to add to all this my daughter (16) has just started antidepressants as she is suffering panic and anxiety probably got it from me and today I am just so fed up of everything ,

I go hypomanic and manic when stressed for sure. Ppl think that you would be more likely to get depressed but I dont and I believe it is relatively common to go high when things are stressful. I dont know why - maybe it is something to do with adrenaline but it is something I have definitely noticed.

I've definitely felt that some of my hypomanic episodes were triggered by severe stress and anxiety. And I get stressed for short periods of time, situationally, I can feel my mood going up as well as down. But of course, if I'm stressed over a bad situation, it's more of an agitated and angry hypomania..

OMG , i thinking about it yesterday and today , 5 minutes before open this topic. :o

I'm few hypomaniac for hours.

Last month i was stressfull and a few hypo, then for 3 days next i few extreme depressive, cry for hours, as like the end of world. When in this state i'm NEED desesperate green tea or other stimulants.
But stress in my life is rare. this mood changes is in days of extreme stress, like the day of my exam to colegge , i get out of the class hypo, talking too much , agitaded, etc.

its very reassuring to see it happens to you guys too, thanks for replying, my pdoc has told me to mind myself and try to know my limits but some things just cannot be avoided and the more bad things that happen at once the more hyper i get until i crash and get really depressed too. I suppose it's just trying to accept that this is the way it is with some of us.

I think that stress triggers are typically referred to by doctors as "stressful life events" or SLE's. They come no matter what you do, so I think that it's wise to prepare so that they don't cause instability.

Yep stress enduced mania. Ive lost sleep for the last 3 weeks, lost weight and have been in manic depressive state. There is no prepareing for the stress that causes the manic feeling. If the stress isnt there then my manics drop off, When stressed i stay manic till its gone. There is no preping for what i have no control over. I wish i could, but it hits fast and hard so nothing works other than getting rid of the stress.
Just another day in the mind of me.

Actually there are many things that you can do to prepare for SLEs. Preparation is part of good strategy. If I didn't prepare then I'd need meds, lots of coping, and good luck.

Sad to hear that you feel you have no control over the onset of your manic feelings. Not sure how you're "getting rid of the stress"... I simply attack the problems head on. Sometimes I'm successful and other times I fail, but I don't go unstable. Since I don't meds, I feel that I need to be focused like this - it's been working for about a year (knock on wood).
