Hi there!
I take provigil to counteract the effects of the quetiapine I take. Initially my friend recommended it, and when I asked my psychiatrist about it she initially agreed I could try it, and then changed her mind as it 'was not policy' for the NHS Trust that I am under. So I ended up buying it myself.
It is a lifesaver for me. Before I started taking it, I would be so sedated in the morning, I would fall asleep at work several times in the morning and even at the wheel of my car once. It was awful, I just couldn't do my job. Now I take 200mg first thing in the morning and it's been amazing. It doesn't make me feel high or hyper, it just literally removes the sedation. It has improved my quality of life no end. At first it made me quite headachey but that has gone now i've been taking it for a while...I think it also decreases my appetite a bit, but I don't seem to have other side effects.
It doesn't stop me sleeping at night- in fact, because I've stopped falling asleep in the day and am much more active, I fall asleep a lot easier and have massively reduced the medications I used to take at night to get myself to sleep.
On 200mg per day it doesn't work out to be massively expensive- I buy it for about £300 per year for one 200mg tablet per day. I wish I could get it on prescription as I feel that this would be safer, and I would also rather be monitored whilst I am on it in case of adverse effects. I will try to talk my psychiatrist round to prescribing it for me, but I'm not holding my breath. Regardless, I plan to keep on taking it.
Best, keenie
