Anyone else get compulsive urges to pack up and move away?

Postby TonyHarlan » Sat Nov 10, 2012 12:21 am

This evening I've came to the conclusion I want to move away - not forever, just for a little while. I've looked at train tickets for tomorrow morning and I think I've found somewhere i want to go.

Does anyone else get these urges to just pack up and move away and do something new, something fresh?

Oh yes, altho I'm not bipolar, I have felt that way. Getting the urge to just pack up and move away happens to a lot of ppl. Leaving your everyday life and going somewhere new is exciting. However, getting the urge to move away and just deciding to go tomorrow morning – that sounds pretty impulsive (manic behavior perhaps?) Wouldn’t you need to tie up loose ends, wrap up your affairs, those kind of things? You might want to give it a bit more planning and thought before you just catch a train out of town tomorrow.

I think I am a bit manic right now - but I'm not too fussed.

I just booked a train ticket for tomorrow morning - i'm leaving :D So excited! This idea came to me today - just to get away for a while, i had this picture in my head of myself just traveling and being free.... I'm gonna do it. I've got a place to stay at a friends house tomorrow night, and i've booked a hotel room for the night after, after then your guess is as good as mine, i'll go where the wind takes me. Feels good :)

That reminds me that I have to pack - should i pack before i sleep or tomorrow when I wake up? I'm thinking tomorrow because I'm packing my laptop and i will want to use it in the morning before i head off. Also I guess i wont be packing much, just clothes, maybe a few bites to eat. FUN!

Can't sleep, i'm so excited. It all feels a bit messy, but it's gonna be okay. I don't know why it's taken me until today to realise how much I love adventure and crave for it. My train is at 10:45am, that's in like... 8 hours? something like that.

Oh yes! I have done it many times over the years. It has become a compulsion, almost. The longest I have been able to live in one place has been five years and within that time I have had "disappearing" time where l just go away for a few days. None of these things are planned, I just go.
I have got to the point again where I might be doing it again. But I will wait until I cannot stop myself and then I will be off.

I have bipolar and I always plan to pack up and move away :) though I rarely go through with it because I'm still at Uni and I'm almost always broke. I always think about changing my name and moving somewhere where no one knows me, where i can start fresh and get away from everything. im excited because A couple of weeks ago I actually somehow managed to book myself a one way ticket into the uk for the beginning of next year?! Completely on impulse! Haha hmm it should be interesting :) good luck on your travels!

Well excitement quickly turned to anxiety, and anxiety to panic. I got about an hours sleep after which I came close to calling it off because the panic was getting so intense. Managing to cool it now i've woken myself up fully, keep telling myself it's gonna be okay, a fun adventure, and that nothing great comes easy and this is just a fear I have to overcome. Starting to pack stuff together now, train leaves in under 4 hours from the city.

Sounds like it will be fun Tony. I hope you find it enjoyable. Don’t forget to come back for your Dec 5th appt that you mentioned in another thread. (Maybe that's a bit mother-hen like but I am trying to look out for you :D)

I take off - usually when hypomanic or often manic. It can be fun but you can get yourself into trouble so just be careful OK? Remember that it is good to be around support and when you travel you have less of that - even tho it is exciting and fun often.
