Lamictal and withdrawl symptoms

Postby doesntfeelbeautiful » Thu Nov 01, 2012 7:20 pm

Hey I was just wondering if anyone here experiences withdrawl symptoms with Lamictal. I take 200mg daily but on the few occasions I've missed my dose I start to feel awful. Double vision, inability to speak or form sentences and extreme tiredness.

I have a friend with epilepsy, she went on it then off of it with no problem so that just makes me curious, could it be neurological, brain chemistry??

I think Lamictal changed my life for the better and I plan to remain on it, but if I'm out somewhere and forgot to take it I have to drop everything and race home to take it before I'm unable function.
The beauty of suffering is our ability to survive it.

I get a killer headache about 12 hours after the missed dose, but have never noticed anything more serious.

I have been on Lamotrigine for about 5 years now and i take 200mg's a day. I have stopped taking it cold turkey with no withdrawal symptoms at all except for the return of the symptoms that it was keeping under control. My mood swings start to come back a few days after stopping lamictal.

You should not stop taking lamotrigine abruptly and without talking to your doctor because as with all anti-convulsants if you stop taking it suddenly the risk of seizure goes up even if you don't have a pre existing epileptic condition. Not to mention that the original symptoms will reappear once you stop it.
