No idea what's going on with me... :(

Postby Guest » Fri Sep 02, 2005 2:28 pm

It all started 8 months ago. I was always fat 249lbs at 5.7. I started a diet. Until July I have lost 66lbs. I was feeling good. Suddenly I have stopped loosing and I was paniced. I then found a diet from the Internet (Atkins diet). From August I started doing it because it was the diet that corresponded with all my hormonal problems. From August, even though I am loosing weight, I became obsessed with my weight. Every time I eat I then weight myself, and 15 hours per day I am always in my computer and reading reading and reading about my diet, if I do anything wrong, or/and to calculate my food intake etc. Then in the evening I have terrible headaches from all this stuff and go to bed exhausted. The only person who knows it is my bf but he doesn't know what to do. What do you think is wrong with me? Thanks in advance for the replies.

I think what's happened to you has happened to a lot of other people who now binge eat. That is that in the beginning we see something wrong with our body and end up restricting certain foods and work on changing our weight and attempting to 'mould' our body in a way that would please us.

As it continues we end up thinking too much about it and become obsessive about our image. Stress might take over...depression might have set in due to not eating the right foods... ...And then we are so strict with what we eat that even eating the smallest of 'bad' foods might trigger a binge. The cycles can start from there.

But look - You have done really well to lose that weight! 66 lbs is a helluva lot of weight to lose. You don't need to continue to lose weight. Anyway, I hope this post helps you a tad..

Just to affirm, if you are 5'7", you don't need to lose any more weight.

Get into counseling if you have any more obsessive stuff.

I think diets only create problems. Also, they create the wrong atmosphere. The best way to become happier with body-image is to exercise. There is actually no need to lose weight in most situations. It is simply a question of feeling good inside. Exercise can do this. It improves blood flood by increasing the size of veins and arteries in the body, thereby supplying more oxygen to our cells. It makes us more alert, agile, and confidant.

I wonder if bulimia / anorexia are societic-born illnesses? Does anyone know the history on these?

These thoughts intrigue me immensely as well. For starters, there are animals...have you ever seen massive differences in sizes of animals? Lions are usually the same size; rats; mice; ducks, etc. The only exception are domestic animals, (ie. dogs, cats) whose food intake, surprise surprise - HUMANS have control over! Sometimes I wonder if we are really lucky to have higher intellectual capabilities!
As for humans; I often think of tribal communities whenever I question how we are 'supposed' to live. Many that I've read about seem to have so many attributes that just seem 'right'. Especially when it comes to eating.
I have also read/heard a couple of times about the rich people somewhere a long time ago having (daily, I think) feasts. (Sorry for the rough details, but I read it ages ago - but coz it was way back in history, it fascinated me!) They would gorge themselves until they could eat no more, then purge, and sit down for a 'second course', so to speak! I'm pretty sure they were mostly quite big people, and I bet they didn't live too long!
Food for thought? (No pun intended!) :P

Well, I certainly don't feel lucky to have this brain. Anyway, you raised some interesting ideas there my friend. Indigenous people, while not being as happy as some people can be, are content with the way they live.

...They live on the basics...

... ...We live on the superfluous
