Binge eating?

Postby pinky » Fri Dec 07, 2007 6:27 am

Hi, I'm new here and am just trying to fix my life. My eating has become out of control, but I'm not sure if it qualifies as "binge eating." I started a diet/food/weight loss blog and have been tracking what I'm eating and my weight. If any of you could take a look at a couple examples of what I eat in a day and tell me if you think that this is binge eating or just gluttony, I'd really appreciate it. I know y'all aren't doctors, but it's hard for me to judge my behavior without being biased.

Today:
1 whole P'Zone (pepperoni and cheese calzone from Pizza Hut)
1 order of breadsticks from Pizza Hut
1 two-liter of Pepsi
1 large glass of chocolate chip ice cream and milk mixed
10 reduced fat chocolate chip cookies
(I'm a stay at home mom, and ordered Pizza Hut just for myself this afternoon.)

Yesterday:
2 chicken soft tacos with nacho cheese (From Taco John's)
2 chicken cheese gorditas (From Taco Bell)
1 churro (Taco John's)
4 bags of mini chocolate chip muffins
2 bowls of chocolate chip ice cream
1 bottle of Coke
2 large servings of chips and Ranch dip

Previous day:
Half a family-sized bag of Doritos and Ranch dip
Kid's cheeseburger with just mustard from Wendy's
8 Reese's Big Cups

Every time I go on an eating spree, the whole time I'm thinking "I shouldn't be eating this" but I just can't stop myself. I feel completely hopeless about it.

pinky my dear, throw away the labels (such as Binge Eating and Bulimia) for a second and answer me this: Does eating this food distress you? It obviously does and, in that case, you have a problem. You don't have to stick a label onto it.

Is there anything happening in your life other than food that you are not happy about? I ask because - personally - my eating problems began due to things in my life that were in no way related to food. I used food as a 'comfort'.

Hi Chucky, thanks for responding. My life has been very chaotic for the past two years. I met a British man online, married him 2 months later, got pregnant 7 months after that, and had a baby 5 months ago. I'm 21. In that time, we've moved 5 times between three states. Our most recent move was 2 months ago, and that's also when he got his green card and started working after a long 2 years. Our son is very high needs, which of course, is stressful. Our marriage has also been on the rocks since this most recent move-- we went almost two weeks without speaking and although it's not that bad anymore, it's still very strained.

I think you may be right about using food for comfort, even though I don't really think of it that way. I don't really think of it at all-- I just eat and eat and eat and even if I'm thinking that I shouldn't, I can't make myself stop.

Hi,

I live in Ireland and I'm 24 at the moment (unmarried). Why exactly did you marry your husband so soon? Did it feel right?
