Unsupportive family

I live with my dad, and the problem is, he always buys cookies, cakes, ice cream, and other junk food that I love. The problem is, I can't help but eat it when it is in the house. I have asked him to stop buying those things, and he knows I am trying to lose weight, but he doesn't care. We are both considered obese and I tried talking to him about eating healthier together, but he is not buying it. Today he came home with a cheesecake and I ended up eating 3 pieces + a piece of chocolate cake in one sitting. I know I would not have this problem if these unhealthy foods were not in the house. Short of moving out, what can I do?

It sounds like you are looking to blame him for what you are doing.

I can not really relate to you on the weight level, but both of my parents and my little brother are heavy. i have always been involved in sports and now modeling, You make the choice of what to eat. They buy bad foods but I either choose to eat them or not. My suggestion to you would be to become more active. How old are you? You may find it surprising but they have womens soccer teams that take anyone willing to try and play to get into shape. Maybe trying a nutritionist may help and you can buy what you want , not what your father eats?

That's true - You don't have to eat what your parents buy. I live with my parents and they buy some junk-food but I go nowhere near it. I buy my own food and prepare my own meals.

If moving out is too drastic then consider trying this: Treat the house you now live in as NOT your own home - i.e. It is merely a house that you share with other people but you have to do things for yourself to get-by. Become more independant and take control of your life.

I have this problem too.
It's not as simple as saying "you don't have to eat what he buys".. tried it, doesn't work unless I'm chained up somewhere.
I think you really need to stress it: yell, cry, hit things, act like a spoilt little schoolgirl!
or you could talk to him about how you feel and need to lose some weight, could he buy healthy meals and carrots with dip for snacks. there are some great microwaveable healthy low-cal meals around if you need them, make him try them and he'd like them.

sorry if this is no help. =)
