AnnaDee, sometimes I get the idea that 'shrinks' don't truly understand the way the brain of an eating disorder sufferer works. The suggestion was good (To eat small meals throughout the day) but it's not easy to just start doing that. In fact, (for me) it feels next-to-impossible to do it.
rosiemaphone, you are doing a great thing here by reaching out to people that understand you. I also suffered backlashes from people I knew when I told them that I was depressed - They just did not understand, however. To prevent getting into a long-standing routine of binge-eating you must act now. For your next binge, plan what you are going to eat. Once you have that in your head remove an item from the menu and tell yourself that you cannot eat that item. Then, once the binge comes around allow yourself to binge but do not eat the item that you removed. This method has worked the best for me. It is a compromise: You are allowing yourself to binge but only if you eat less than usual.
Accepting that the binge will occur is also a good line of thinking. Just let it happen... ...Then there will be less anxiety and greater chance of eating less.
Cuidate siempre,
