I want to help my wife... but how?

Postby ilovelisaruth » Fri Apr 14, 2006 4:35 pm

My wife and I have been married for about two years, we're both in our mid-20s, we have a very cute young son. My wife has been about 120 lbs overweight for as long as I've known her. Of course, I married her for who she is, not how she looks. I love her personality and her attitude toward life in general. She truly is my better half.

The thing is, I want her to be healthy and live a long life. She has a bad habit of eating large portions of food, this is why she is overweight. She also snacks quite often. So I tell her this, she doesn't believe me. I don't know what to do. I can talk to her about anything, anything at all, except her weight. Well, I just want to help her. I don't make rude jokes or criticize or anything like that.

She does have a psychiatrist that she sees once a month, but I don't think they often talk about food.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

A woman's weight is a very touchy subject for any woman. It's not just about the physical it is a health consern as well, your totally right.

If she won't do it for herself, try to factor in your child as motivation.

You want to know why you don't see elderly people who obese, because there's no such thing! People who are excessively overweight don't live long lasting lives. The heart has to work double time to circulate the blood throughout the body. Many even have circulation problems due to being overweight; which can lead to blood clots, stroke and heart attack.

If she has any intention of seeing your beutiful son grow into a man, have her reconsider atleast for his sake. Good diet doesn't have to be a choir, smaller portions (1/2 of normal portion) and incorporation of excercise.

If she doesn't like to talk about it, you can try asking her to take a romatic walk. She may not notice it but she's actually working out. Do what you can. The rest is up to her.
